What is Root Beer Tag?
A web-based tagging, searching, and sharing solution for all of your photos. You can have your own site to organize photos and share them with family and friends. Root Beer Tag’s search capabilities set us apart from other online photo storage systems.
What can Root Beer Tag do for me?
Organize Photos
How many photos do you have on your computer? Hundreds? Thousands? Tens of thousands?
Root Beer tag allows you to upload and organize all of these photos. Whether you have 100 or 10,000, Root Beer Tag is the solution to folders upon folders of unsorted images.
Tag and Search
Root Beer Tag enables you to tag your photos with any combination of people, events, years, or other tags you choose to create regardless of the desktop platform on which they are stored (Windows or MacOS).
Once you upload and tag your photos, you (and anyone you wish) can search on virtually any combination of those tags to quickly find the photos you’re looking for within your library (see some search examples here).
Even if you choose not to tag your images, Root Beer Tag can search through file and/or folder names of your photos much faster than traditional Windows or MacOS searches.
Sharing your Photos
With Root Beer Tag, you are given your own website.
This allows you to easily share your photos and tagging with family and friends. You can also give other people the ability to help with tagging and other site activities.
Google Authentication
With integrated Google authentication, logging in to your site is as easy as logging into Google. There is no separate username/password combination to remember.
You can restrict who is able to see the website, who is able to see the full sized images, and who is able to adjust the tags on images and tags available on the site. No one will be able to see any photos you do not want them to.
Google Authentication in combination with Root Beer Tag’s user management tools will ensure your images are only seen by people you approve.
Why Root Beer Tag?
- Root Beer Tag’s search capabilities set us apart from other photo storage sites or methods (local or internet-based).
- Root Beer Tag lets you search your uploaded and tagged photos by years, individuals, events, or anything else you have tagged in those images (pets, holidays, animals, etc . . .).
- When searching for tagged images, Root Beer Tag presents you with lists of tags you have used; no need to remember how names or other tags are spelled.
- Unlike other photo search engines, you can limit your search to return photos that are linked to ONLY the people tags you select.
- Please click here for some detailed examples of how Root Beer tag can cut through the clutter of photo searches.
- Root Beer Tag maintains your local directory structure when your photos are uploaded. If you choose, you can search by folder names or file names instead of tags.
- Similar to other photo sites, access control is all up to you. You can allow full access to all, or no access to unauthenticated visitors. You can show thumbnails, and/or just the paths and filenames.
- Lastly, Root Beer Tag allows you to designate other people that can help you tag photos and help you manage the site.
Screenshots of our Demo site
If you want to take a look at an existing Root Beer Tag site, we have a demo site set up for just that reason. All pages are available on the demo site although some functionality is disabled for visitors. Feel free to click here or the Demo Site link at the of this page and poke around over there and see how our search system works and get familiar with the look and feel of some of our tools.
Below are some images of some pages from the demo site.

Is Root Beer Tag free?
Root Beer tag will be free to our beta testers who are helping us work the kinks out during the initial pilot phase. We are still working out how much the service will cost in the future as things ramp up. Please stay tuned.
